Eldritch is a rather interesting little title... Based off various mythos, the game chucks you head-first into randomly generated dungeons where the main objective is to try and get out of each one alive. Its basically first person Spelunky. Does it work? Hm... That's a debatable question there...
Lets hit into the negatives a little first, the game as a whole does feel a little sloppy. The graphics are not exactly the best, sound is limited and there's a distinctly low amount of weapons and items around. The game too is also quite short, clocking in at around only a few hours to completion, adding in maybe another half an hour to an hour for the bonus content.
Where the game does shine however is where the connections to Spelunky are most apparent, each level providing a new layout each time you go through it and each new level containing some quite appropriate scares, special mention going to the 'Weeping Angel' like statue enemy that you can find, damaging you when you turn away from it. The scares also comes from the difficulty too, getting killed throws you back to square one and unless you use a good mix of stealth and speed, you won't get far.
And despite all the negatives I have mentioned, the scares and the tension does help in making the game much better than it really should be, helped even moreso by the on-point controls, showcasing the ability to peer around corners to spot enemies as well as the ability to slide, helping for quick escapes if needed.
Overall this is a very mixed game where the negatives are there, they are unavoidable and will likely put many off. Should you actually dive into the game though, there is some real fun to be had, even if said fun is a little limited.
