Lego Harry Potters: Years 1-4 - Dark Tower Glitch

Another Glitch-post from me and one that may come in useful to players of this title, usually I would be trying to avoid spoilers on this blog but the books have been out for many years, the films too and this game pretty much acts as if you already know the various plots so... *shrugs*. Anyway onto the glitch.

Right at the end of Year 3 is the 'Dark Tower' level, the very last level of the year. Here you'll find a rather large glitch where, on melting certain ice pieces, the game locks up completely, requiring a forced shutdown. The actual issue isn't the fire itself but rather the ice-melting animation which, for some reason, a lot of newer pc's seem to hate. The devs seem to have no intention of patching this bug out so I guess its fixing time. This bug is present ONLY in this level and appears at least three times throughout it (Once right near the beginning and twice in the final battle)

One of the main ways of fixing this problem involves a big drop in/out of mutliplayer. This is just rubbish, complicated and my way is much easier, the only negative is that you will have to deal with some weird lighting issues through this one level.

First up, you need to make 'Invisible folders' visible. To do this head to the control panel - appearance and personalization. Then hit 'Folder Options'. Click the 'view' tab and under the Advance Settings, click the tickbox for 'Show hidden files, folders and Drives'. Then click OK.

Next up, the file you need to edit should be called PCCONFIG.TXT which should be in one of these locations depending on your O.S

C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\Application Data\WB Games\LEGO Harry Potter
C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\Applcation Data\WB Games\LEGO Harry Potter\SavedGames\Slot1
C:\Users\*User*\AppData\Roaming\WBGames\Lego Harry Potter\SavedGames\Slot1

Find that and make a copy, call it 'PCCONFIG - Backup', you will need this later. Next, open up the original PCCONFIG.txt file and under where it says 'mousesensitivity', you need to replace all the 1 marks to 0. On entering the game, it will look a bit odd at points, but will still be perfectly playable. Once done, simply go back and rename the PCCONFIG.txt file to 'PCCONFIG - Fix' and the Backup one back to just 'PCCONFIG' to put things back to normal and to keep the fix file for when you want to replay that level.

  1. Hey I was wondering you could help with a glitch I have futher in the game. I used your solution and changed all "1" (and "2") to "0" below and including 'mousesensitivity'.
The problem I have now is that the purple gargoyle (on the same level, The Dark Tower) won't smash the window and I'm stuck again. There is a noice of glass breaking, but it doesn't actually break. Any ideas? thank you.

  2. When I open the file it is only symbols with no words, could you help me? I am not sure why it is doing this.
