Kairo - Colours, Shapes and Sounds - Oh My!

Kairo definitely is a game that likes to place its loyalty firmly and that loyalty firmly belongs to the 'Games are Art' crowd of thinking, levels awash with colour, weird geometry abound and bizarre architecture littering the place along with a heavy dose of symbolism.

Thankfully though, for the most part it avoids the usual trappings of the 'Art Game' crowd by remembering to actually add content too. The puzzles vary between using logic, visual space and even a number puzzle, puzzles never really repeat and the game is always very clear when you have things correct, leading to a brilliant rush when a difficult puzzle is cleared.

I did say 'for the most part' though as sometimes it damages itself with its artistic nature, thanks to a lack of speech or writing, the puzzles occasionally wind up being tougher than they should, not due to difficulty but more due to a lack of clear information that's given to the player. In addition the 'art' can sometimes lead to the occasional confusing room where all you can think is 'What now?' and 'Where do I go?'

These are quite minor issues however, for the most part Kairo happens to be a very fun, if brief romp through a arty-landscape and at the end of it, you pretty much feel like you have seen all you need to see, no issue with stretching out the game here.
