Uninvited - A Ghoulish Classic

A quick trip down the more 'Old' games here with the adventure title 'Uninvited'. I felt like playing something a bit more old-school and, since I can play NES games on my Ouya (Ho-hum), I went for this.

Note: I went for the NES version of this game, its also available for other systems and pc's systems but I will explain why I picked the NES version as we go on.

The game itself is very typical of any B-Movie cheesy horror flick, you have crashed the car, the sibling of yours has gone missing and its up to you to find and save them from a terrible fate. It really is that simple but it works, at no point do you ever get irritated at the plot. Unlike most adventure games too, there are very few characters to interact with and, almost all of said characters will wind up with you seeing the game-over screen.

Yep, this is one of those adventure games that takes full joy in killing you off over and over again. Thankfully the game does at least have the kindness to boot you back to just before you did whatever you did to see the game-over screen, rather than expect you to save every few seconds 'Just in case'.

And this is also where the NES version comes into play, while the graphics may not be the best out of all the versions available (They are far from the worst though), the big point is that the NES version is the fairest out of all of them. Several situations where you can ruin your game by forgetting to pick up something have been cut and the major issue that plagues all the others (A time limit through the whole game. Run out of time and its back to the start) has been mostly cut out.

That said, while the game is very fun, there's many memorable scenes and moments to be had, it also feels irritating at points because the game really enjoys throwing various 'Moon Logic' puzzles at you which make little sense. Defeating a ghost by chucking a spider at it for one, escaping a flooding room by unhooking the lighting being another.

Thankfully there isn't too many of these moments around to really make things irritating. Overall if you have a couple of hours spare and you can get access to this game, its worth a speedy, but memorable, runthrough.
