Note: The main dev of this game has since changed the game completely, turning a slightly intresting but flawed title into a completely unplayable mess. I'm not doing a full page review of the new 'Game' as quite frankly, I don't want to touch it again if needs be. I'll keep this up though just to showcase what the game used to be.
So this morning, went and grabbed myself the Groupees Retro 2 bundle and one of the games I wound up picking up was this little weird title (Which for sanity's sake, I shall be just referring to as NPPD). So I installed it, played it and finished it in under half an hour (Whoops. There's one MAJOR mark against it already). So how was it? Uh... Interesting...
First is the game's unique style, loads of neon everywhere and weird imagery, its almost as if the entire game was made on a special something and while it definitely makes the game unique and memorable in a way, its also a little irritating too. Areas tend to have very little style of their own, various corridor areas have a tendency to look samey and its easy to get a little lost on the first run.
Through the game you have to rush around, shooting enemies and 'Saving' pink girl icons around the map before moving onto the next area, its very basic and simple. That's where the 'Rush' mechanic comes in, acting as a timer. Let that hit 0 and its game over however by spending some cash, you can extend that timer.
And really that's all you will really spend your cash on. Yes you can get upgrades for your gun but they are never really needed as the enemies are far too simple to really bother with. The simple enemies too drop plenty of cash each time, meaning its too easy just to grind and spend, grind and spend. The game tries to remove this a bit by putting in weird extra shooter segments in-between floors but all this does is annoy as the timer goes down through an unskippable scene that has no real clear length.
Then we get another issue, a lot smaller but its still there, there are no options. No screen-sizing, muting of sounds and music. Nothing. There isn't even a pause menu (though given how long the game takes to finish, you don't really need one).
Overall the game feels like a wasted opportunity.
Thanks for the purchase, sad to hear you didn't enjoy the music/story enough to comment, but congrats for completing it!! , no average person can do that btw :P
ReplyDeleteWe are moving away from "games" as such the next thing, will be an Occulus rift experience (selfie).. that will *hopefully* break even more conventions :D I urge you to play RUSH again and perhaps soak in a bit more of the cryptic meta nature, as that was indeed the point. also google Toshiaki Sadoka and track his other stuff down, he is truly a God amongst men, this way you will get the most out of your purchase . BRITISH BEDROOM CODERS FOREVER!! (bbc..? oh cool )
