The Third Wave

Time for a third wave of games already cleared and notes about each one of them. Onwards I say!

Jamestown - Kicking off first with another shooter, this one a little less eastern and a little more western, based around a fictional floating continent, aliens are invading and you gotta shoot em down. Unlike the other shooters I already listed, this game is a little easier to play through and therefore I can recommended it a little easier. The action moves thick and fast, the soundtrack is amazing and the various challenge modes provide a great amount of content. Its more than worth the asking price.

Jolly Rover - Take 'Monkey Island' and replace all the characters with walking, talking dogs and then you have it on the money as far as this game is concerned. Some clever puzzles (such as the whole voodoo spell sheet system) and silly jokes move it all along at a good pace. Well worth it... even if you do feel like you are playing a bit of a knock-off in the process.

The Journey Down: Chapter One - Another point and click title and another that would have felt right at home with the old Lucasarts titles. Plenty of humour, interesting puzzles and memorable characters. Another title that's well worth it and like 'The Dream Machine' I am eagerly awaiting the next part.

Kaptain Brawe - Just copy and paste what I said in the first sentence for the Journey Down and you have the idea. Its fun, silly, uncomplicated and a joy to play through.

Limbo - I don't get most of the hyper for this title at all. Its a cute enough platformer, there's occasionally the odd shock and surprise but it all wears thin as it carries on, certain puzzles are more frustrating than charming and by the end of it I couldn't care less. All the good-will the game had picked up during the first 20-30 minutes had since vanished.

Little Inferno - A very... charming game but also a very divisive one. Think of it like a facebook game, little things happen, the game hands you cheap rewards and waiting for other things to happen... Its a hard game to recommend but its also worth playing... Does that even make sense??

Lucius - Or as I call it.. 'The Omen: The Videogame'. In it you bump off members of the family and staff without being caught. Its got loads of ideas yes but it never actually makes full use of them. Instead the game devolves into a very basic point and click with simple puzzles and cheap tricks.

Lume - Finished in 10 minutes, its a cute but far too basic puzzle title.

Luxor Evolved - I have played Luxor before and found it a bit... dull at times. This however kicks the series into high gear and provides what was missing from the series before. As usual powerups are aplenty, gifts are given quickly and the speed makes sure everything moves on fast before you lose focus. Well worth playing.

McPixel - A odd curio of a game more than anything. In each level click to do things, to hit things, to push things, to eat things and so on. Very random and messy at the best of times. If that's a recommendation to you then so be it.

Musaic Box - Another odd puzzler and another one completed in a low time. Here you piece together music boxes by listening to various classical pieces of music. Its charming yes but also a bit too simple to really recommend.

Now I said I would talk about the madness that is Nancy Drew here but I think I will save that for later. We have a lot to go through. (Seriously a lot. Theres around 28/29 of the suckers to talk about)
