The Second Wave

Its another wave of games that have already been done, all wrapped up with little pieces on each (and I mean little). Well... I guess I better get started then!

Chains - A small match-puzzle title. Unlike most matching games, each level has its own specific objective that manages to vary from level to level. This definitely makes the game a bit more unique, music pushing down on you as you race to try and complete each objective. Its also however very short with only 20 levels to burn through. Get it cheap or bundled and you wont go wrong.

Containment: The Zombie Puzzler - A rather fun and silly 'Puzzle' game which is a bit too easy thanks to the game throwing all sorts of help at you continuously.

Costume Quest - Adorable, fun, silly but also a bit grindy and repetitive thanks to how the game works (Do all set battles and collect all candy from houses in each area to move to the next). The humour helps soothe the sense of repetition though and even then, its not a big game so it doesn't outstay its welcome.

Crazy Machines 1.5: Inventors Training Camp - Half of the 'Crazy Machines 1.5' pack is this, a rather basic set of puzzles intended for newcomers to the series. Its okay enough but for anyone who's more used to any sort of logic puzzle, its a no.

DLC Quest - A very silly and funny duo of games (Escaped from the Xbox Indie Games service) which mocks the various DLC mechanics and 'Pay to Win' ways of other games, all the time making its own nice method of play, collecting coins and hunting around for secrets to unlock more moves and areas. Nab it!

The Dream Machine Chapters 1-4 - A very charming point and click adventure, based around dreams and manipulating them. Since they are based around dreams, theres loads of moon-logic all over the place (such as giant umbrellas turning into small ones fit for a cocktail, or placing pictures on walls to make new rooms appear). All four parts are also very short (Partly because of how the game is animated, I cant imagine it being very easy to use figures). Its a very good series though.

Escape Goat - Another XBIG refugee, this one being another greenlit platformer game. Unlike DLC-Quest this one centres more around puzzle solving and it does it very well, the puzzles never really require perfect reflexes, nor do they need expert timing which means that finishing is easy enough and when game overs do arrive, they never feel unfair. Also has an upcoming sequel which is another that I am looking forward to.

eXceed 2nd & 3rd - Bullet hell madness! Both being very hard but very great examples of the Japanese bullet hell shooter genre. Both also manage to be very different from each other with 2nd having a polarity system akin to Ikaruga, switching colours letting you absorb bullets of the same colour. Absorbing the bullets lets you set off large lazer attacks which means you will want to grab as much power as possible. 3rd meanwhile ditches this for a more normal 'Just avoid everything' method. The game does however try and get you into dangerous situations thanks to the 'Graze' mechanic where if you get up close to a bullet, letting it touch your character but not killing it, giving you extra power for another larger lazer attack.

And yes I am getting WAY too much into detail for a short description so lets move on with a 'Great games' tag.

P.S: eXceed 1 sucks.

Fortix - A fun arcade title akin to Qix. Its usually on sale for dirty cheap either on Steam or GamersGate.

Yep that's about it. I cannot think of anything else to say about it.

Gundemonium Recollection - Another super hard Bullet Hell Shooter. Its pretty fun and colourful and well worth playing. *tries not to go into shedloads of detail again*

Half Life - Oh dear. Um. This is going to sound harsh and mean. Its still quite a fun FPS game but theres... issues. Time has not exactly been the kindest to some of the areas, whole levels can feel like trial and error sequences and everything to do with Xen sucks horribly. Its still fun though... Probably should go for the 'Black Mesa' remake of this though if you do intend on playing.

Hamlet - Or as its also known 'That small adventure game with the stupidly long and obnoxious title'. Aside from the title issues, its a cute game. The puzzles are simple and the storyline basic but charming. That's about all I can say about it. Oh well.

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Undead Rabbit - A very 'Ren & Stimpy' esque cartoony platformer about a Skeleton bunny that resides over hell, who gets caught pleasuring himself with a large S&M leathered rubber ducky on hell equivalent of youtube, who decides to get revenge by killing/kidnapping/whatever every demon who saw the video. Yeah... its weird. Good fun though. Still.... S&M Rubber Duck.

Hotline Miami - The task is simple, enter, kill everyone, leave. Its also brutally difficult. Unlike most titles like this, you have pretty much the same amount of health and the same weaknesses that the enemies have. Most levels wind up either in a frenzy of bullets or loads of sneaking around, taking out guys one after another. Well worth playing in all its trippy weird glory.

Insecticide - This game makes me sad. Its very fun, incredibly playable, mixing platforming run and gun gameplay with point and click adventure puzzling... Its also short, ends in the middle of things randomly, promises a part two and said part two will never come thanks to the company being bought up and all titles being cancelled. Sad :(

With that rather sad entry, theres this part done for now. Next time: Pirates, Shadows, Lazers, Fire and NANCY DREW!
