The First Wave

Its a new blog! Gasp! Shock! Horror! As amazing as this news may be, its time to get down to what we call business. This blog is all about me playing through games, me talking about games and me ticking games off a mental checklist that's growing constantly.

It would also probably be a good idea to mention that this blog is just a 'little' bit, if not almost completely inspired by this blog (Just click the pic to go to that one. Don't worry, it doesn't bite)

Anyway I should probably start with the games that have already been completed by me. I will try and give little mini opinions on each one. Only going through some now, the rest later.

The 39 Steps - Not really a game, more a storybook. Its very charming and personally I will always love the story (the fact I have the same name as the original author has nothing to do with it, ho-hum) but it needed a bit more... interactivity?

A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda - Take Megaman, let him aim, turn down the difficulty and remove half the levels and you have this game in a nutshell. Its fun enough while it lasts but is in serious need of more content.

AaaaAAaaaAaaAAaAAAaa... A Blantant Disregard for Gravity/For the Awesome - Two games here back to back, if you buy one of them, buy 'For the Awesome' as it contains all the levels from the first one and then some. A very odd set of titles, both based around free-falling past floating buildings and then landing safety, all the while trying to rack up points via getting close to buildings and objects, spray-painting walls, flipping off protesters and smashing into birds. Its very strange and very fun, if twitchy at times.

Adventures of Shuggy - An adorable platformer with loads of charm. Each level tries and throws new things into the mix such as gravity changing, rotating levels, levels with controllable creatures, multiple versions of Shuggy (the main character), time travel and so on.

Alien Shooter/Zombie Shooter - Covering two in one again since both are pretty much the same game. In these you shoot Aliens/Zombies. Really that's about it. Both are fun enough while they last but both are not memorable enough to recommend outside of major sales and bundles.

Analogue: A Hate Story - Here's one title I would have never touched if it wasn't for bundles and that should tell you this isn't a game that's easy to describe without spoiling things. Essentially its a story game with emphasis on the story. Said story is told very well with both shocking and sad moments working well despite the lack of visual detail. Looking forward to the upcoming sequel!

Aquaria - I adore this game. I love the story, the tales of the various characters. I love the locations, breaking the surface on the frozen veil and having my character swim among otters being a high point. Then there's the scary bits from the demonic bosses, the pitch-black areas of the game and the final boss. That's not even covering the cooking mechanics, the various collectables, the seahorse racing, the mod potential (MeatyMod turning the game into a Super Meat Boy-Esque title). Its AMAZING and well worth grabbing and playing.

Bad Bots - An okay game and in all honestly, it only got finished because it was short. There just wasn't anything that interesting here for me, from repetitive combat, to annoying jumping sections and a end-game twist that was obvious from a mile off.

Batman Arkham Asylum/Arkham City - Two very good Batman titles and a far far way away from the rubbish that was the Batman game I owned for the Ps1 (Batman & Robin). An excellent plot, loads of things to find and smooth combat. Cant ask for anything else really.

Ben There, Dan That/Time, Gentlemen Please! - Two simple point and click adventures, both quite easy and over with in short time but both also being quite funny love letters to the old Lucasarts adventure titles.

The Blackwell Quadrilogy - Four 'Blackwell' games from WadjetEye Games and all four pretty much having the same sort of feel. Very nice games with a good story but all four feel a little too short.

Bleed - A rather oddball mix of Super Meat Boy meets Devil May Cry. Quite fun if incredibly hard at points.

Brainpipe: A Plunge to Unhumanity - Yes this game does have an ending and after loads of attempts, I did make it. A rather 'fun' title, ported over from the PSP, which is... a little lacking in content. Grab it in a bundle or heavily reduced sale if you want some cheap quick thrills.

-------

Anyway I will place some more up in the next post. As for what game I am rushing through at the moment? I can tell you one of them is Duke Nukem 3D. As for the other one? I'm... Undecided...
